| Take iPhone as portable HDD for Free?
I bought an iPhone two months ago. The promoters in the shop give me a few instructions, but no more warn on particular service provider, like AT&T. After the purchase, it took me just several hours to jailbreak it, just using a tiny application downloaded from the web. Then I can use almost all its functions, such as phone, iPod, and internet. It’s really an amazing creation, which many powerful applications can run smoothly on. But there was still something made me uncomfortable, that is, the developers of the Apple designed iPhone in such a way that, without using iTunes, I couldn’t transfer any music or movie into it. Using iTunes, even if I synced music and movie into iPhone, I just can’t sync them out. And all media files will be cleaned up the next time I sync other files in. Furthermore, besides media files, I even want to copy files of other format into it, and utilize it as a portable HDD. The capacity of my iPhone is 4GB, much larger than normal cell phones, even with a TransFlash disk, and larger than the common USB flash disk. By the way, the weight of iPhone is 120g. Most of it must be the metal shell. It’s much heavier than my former Nokia. Taking the iPhone, it’s just inconvenient to take another portable HDD. There is still no effective way to jailbreak iPhone, in order to import or export files directly. So, it’s necessary to install some software in the computer as an accessory. When searching on the web, I found many applications to rip music into iPhone, but few to copy other files between iPhone and computer. And almost all for copying common files is just free for trial. |

I appriciate your R& D on the iPhone on the first day itself. Fine, you dint mention what software you used to jailbreak the iPhone. If you use Ziphone software to jailbreak and activate iphone it takes hardly 10 minutes. to get Ziphone just go to ZiPhone's Blog I do agree that Itunes will arase the songs/phots/movies next time you sync other files. Thats the reason I posted a new threat very long back to our users for the iTunes alternatives, unfortunately there is no reply still. and more over iPhone will not play the regular .mpgev, .dat movie format. we have convert the iphone playble format using dvd rippers. Most of the avaiable ripper's that we have to buy from the net. I have a software to rip dvd for free of cost. just reply me if you need it. |

Some versatile software, which has several functions, can both rip music and copy common files between computer and iPhone. Its trial version has limitation on ripping music, but does not restrict you from copying common files. That must be the neglect of the designer. There might still be many similar applications with this loophole, but I just found one, Xilisoft iPod Rip. It was designed for iPod at the beginning, but its new version is compatible with iPhone too. The following is a brief solution of how to use “free” Xilisoft iPod Rip to copy files of all formats between computer and iPhone: 1, Install both iTunes and Xilisoft iPod Rip on to the computer. My PC is with Windows XP OS, while Xilisoft iPod Rip has two versions for both Windows and Mac. You can try it on your Mac. 2, Connect my iPhone to computer. The iPhone icon which displayed in My Computer will be used later. The iPod Rip will tell you to shut off iTunes if it’s running, otherwise the iPod Rip 3,Run Xilisoft iPod Rip. The application can detect the style of my iPhone, and display the basic information on the interface. No button on the interface is of the function what I need. 4, In the File menu, choose Open with Windows Explorer. The movable contents in iPhone will be shown up in the new Explorer window. Or select My Computer from Desktop, and right click the iPhone icon, choose Open or Explorer. 5, Now, copy and paste any files to iPhone. It supports to copy from other source with Ctrl+C and right click menu. But past is just offered with right click menu. It also supports to import /export batch of files with the right click menu. 6, It can also create new folders at the root or any folder of iPhone. Delete several selected files at the same time directly is also supported. Powerful and versatile, isn’t it? And also free. High technology is really a grace from the God, and we can enjoy it nearly free of charge. Anyone who use Mac, please tell me the result of using the Mac version of this software. There are still many jailbreak iPhone lovers waiting for further test reports. |
