Why Cingular?

I know, I know... Cingular has helped Apple Inc. with the creation and testing of the iPhone, but damnit, why! Why couldn't it have been Verizon or T-Mobile? Anyone but Cingular! Their plans are horrid compared to everyone else. Their 450 Minute plan doesn't come with free Nights/Weekends, they have an all-or-nothing text service (Either 4.99 a month or 19.99 a month, something like that)..

I am so bummed. Oh well, from the looks of it the iPhone will make up for it.

I guess there may be several reasons.

1. Apple calculated that they will manage to make the largest pile of money (or market share) in this exclusive partnership with Cingular.
2. Cingular has a better platform for future iPhone services, and it will be cheaper to test and implement them with one carrier provider.
3. There are some connections between top-level shareholders of these companies.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see what happens to the iPhone when it comes to Europe (the UK in particular).

Apple always made & provided their products and services alone(I think).
This is the first time they chose a partner and the choice was a poor one.
I agree and why only CIngular, why not allow all other providers to get a fair chance. They always want a monopolistic kind of approach in the market.
